Program Progress to Date

Design efforts for the Jefferson, Lincoln, Washington, and Reagan Elementary modernization projects are completed and have received approval from the Division of the State Architect.  The project team has submitted modernization funding applications for the projects to the State Office of Public School Construction.  Upon approval and the availability of funding at the State level, the District will receive State grants to assist with the costs of the program.   While a new statewide school bond will not be on the November 2014 ballot, the Governor plans to transfer approximately $381 million in current State funds to provide funding for such grants.  The next opportunity for a statewide bond which would provide additional funding for such grants would be in 2016.

The District anticipates receiving a portion of the required construction costs to complete the projects from the State.  In the interim, the District issued approximately $1.5 million in general obligation bonds to fund the modernization of some classrooms at Lincoln Elementary School to provide a model learning lab.  Efforts to gear up for construction are underway and a construction job walk was held in early September 2014 for interested sub-contractors in regards to the classroom modernization project.  The job walk received a good turnout of interested contractors. The ranking of pre-qualifications was also performed in early September with a substantial amount of valid submittals.  No submittal was rejected as they were all complete and met the minimum standards as described within the Request for Qualifications.

Bids were received in September for the Lincoln Elementary School project and the final construction contract is anticipated to be presented to the Board in October.  Construction will commence immediately following with an anticipated duration of four months. After completion, the classrooms will be outfitted with furniture from various manufactures for evaluation from the district staff and students.  The findings will be incorporated into the final design for improvements at other schools in the District.

We will keep you informed of the progress of the program on an ongoing basis.

FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM UPDATE

Thank you Lindsay! – Looking Back at Past Success and Gearing up to Finish the Job

The Lindsay Unified School District (District) has enjoyed strong community support in its commitment to improving local schools.  In March 2002, the District passed Measure “C”, a $7.2 million General Obligation (G.O.) Bond to construct and improve its facilities.   In February 2008, the community observed the continued need for additional facilities and approved Measure “B” a $20.7 million G.O. Bond to fund improvements required to complete the construction of the new Lindsay High and Roosevelt Elementary schools. Read More
